Things to Do for the Family at Cozumel |
|
There is no lack of family activities
at the Island of Swallows and, therefore, vacations are scheduled every
year to this island. Snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing and kayaking are
some of the water fun offered at Cozumel. In addition, families can enjoy
archeological sites, museums, art centers, and festivals on land. Snorkeling and scuba diving are considered to be two most popular water activities for families to enjoy at Cozumel due to island’s rich marine life. Fish such as famous barracuda, angelfish, and parrotfish inhabit the Great Mayan Reef and can be seen in clear water from far away. At Cozumel’s National Reef Marine Park there are twenty five reefs available for scuba diving, which is amusing to experienced as well as inexperienced divers. Palancar is island’s most visited reef due to presence of magnificent underwater caves. Other popular reefs are San Francisco, Santa Rosa, Paraiso Bajo, and Paraiso Sur to name a few. For beginners at scuba diving, scuba classes can be taken at Parque Natural Chankaanab. Martin’s vacation was terrific – his dream has come true. Fishing as well as kayaking is highly practiced by tourists at Cozumel. Beginners can try themselves as fishermen at Reserva Ecologica Parque Punta Sur, which is located on the southern part of the island approximately eighteen miles from the capital. Fishing equipment rentals are readily available throughout the island. Reserva Ecologica Parque Punta Sur is also open for kayaking as well as Playa San Francisco and Playa de San Juan. It is much to see during the vacation. In addition to beautiful beaches and lagoons of Reserva Ecologica Parque Punta Sur, this park is also a place for El Carasol, a worshipping place of the ancient Maya. Another archaeological site that was mentioned in this text earlier is the ruins of San Gervacio, a place of temple for Mayan goddess of fertility, Ix Chel. In addition to the temple, ancient buildings for Mayan political and housing purposes are represented there, including Manitas, Plaza Central, and Murcielagos. Tourists are recommended to plan their vacations to Cozumel carefully due to abundance of things to do there. |
